Plus ça change...

Plane sailing

Today was shed launch day, with the foundation 'plates' laid. Also the first several courses of planks. We're up to hip height. It would have been more, but there was a certain amount of un- and re-screwing. (Made me rather relieved I didn't take the nail-gun option.) There was also a good deal more planing than I expected for a kit shed.

In the morning I worked with GardenChap (trying out a new name for him as he seems to be a fixture now!) and a little bit CarbBoy, who mainly made tea, failed to find things, and played in sand. This afternoon TallGirl did spirit-level holding, screw-handing, and general moral support.

And DiggingMan didn't show.

Later, I started the process of requesting permission from my neighbours for the shed I have (shhh) already started. It started badly with a 45 minute lecture from our oldest neighbour on how I can't take trucks into my garden in case they fracture a pipe that probably doesn't exist. I nearly had to walk out at one point.

Later still, pizzas, Archers catch-up and a long chat with the kids about pets. A tortoise could outlive all of us, comfortably, turns out. So at least I have a commitment from CarbBoy that if we get a tortoise, he has to have children (to pass it down to).

I'd still rather have a parrot. Or a sheep.
