Leaving Home

The first day of Season #3 as coach of the Oakland girls. Next year when our tiny house is complete, these first days won’t be so bad. But for now, it’s a life apart for awhile.

I wonder how many people know the sacrifice we’ve made with all of this. The days and sometimes weeks apart, the miles up and down Interstate 5.

Coaching is much like classroom teaching: there are so many negative factors to it, but the small rewards outweigh all the negativity. Being able to coach our granddaughters is one positive aspect, but there are many more moments.

This is our lot in life, and do it we must. Tonight’s practice was ragged, but we’ll get better. I miss my home, and these two characters in the driveway, but we’ll get back together.

It’s just a game.
