Front door

Sebbie sitting on the front stoop pointing out the buses going by.

Speaking of front stoops and front doors, Sebbie has become interested in what happens beyond the front door and wants us to open it several times during the day so he can look out. This afternoon when Rick went out, he wanted me to open it again. He seemed to think that daddy was still there behind the door.

Which led to a bit of a dilemma at bedtime: Rick went out after dinner to get some work done at a coffee shop and I took care of Sebbie's bath and bedtime routine. Just before it was time to sleep, Sebbie started pointing intensely at the door of his room and wouldn't let up for anything. Wasn't crying, wasn't saying anything, but nothing (not laying him down, not trying to be playful, not music, not anything) would keep him from standing at the side of his crib and pointing at the door. So finally I opened the door and he insisted I pick him up and taking him out in the hall. Then he pointed down the stairs at the front door and continued his obsession. I tried putting him back to bed several times but nothing would soothe him. So finally, I called Rick and put him on speaker phone. That's when Sebbie started saying "daddy, daddy!" excitedly and wouldn't stop.

So I asked Rick to come back home so Sebbie could see him come back through that front door that was bothering him so much. We sat at the top of the stairs and waited for him to come. It wasn't until he was home that Sebbie was ready to go to sleep.

So many things going on in that little mind, trying to make sense of the world and how it works...
