Home for us all ...
The leafy suburb which is home to my church, friends and a wonderful community was hit with tragedy this week. A young man was murdered on our streets. The shock and loss and fear in our community is palpable. And then I wonder what happens to a community when you multiply this by 129 in Paris, or by 41 in Beirut, or by the constant, relentless suffering in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan or numerous places around our world. We live in a troubled world and we live amongst people capable of incredible acts of bravery, courage, strength and love, and also with people capable of unspeakable acts of terror and hatred.
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn: for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness: for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful: for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
