Nicky and her Nikon

What a day!

What a day it has been. It started with Adam phoning me at 7am to say that he was feeling worse and was going to go to A&E. With a high temperature and feeling pretty rotten, I told him to get a taxi to the hospital rather than cycling there on his bike in the wind and rain. He ended up being referred to the ENT surgeon who decided to admit him to hospital so that he could get him on an antibiotic intravenous drip. After completing two intravenous bags he had hoped to go back to his college tonight but the doctor has said under no circumstances can he do that and he has to stay in! He has also told me how impressed he is with the NHS and how lucky we are to get such good medical care for free.

Of course I have spent the day worrying about Adam and phoning him every half hour frequently. I was ready to set off to Cambridge this morning but Adam said it was not necessary and so I have not gone down to see him. He is hoping to be back at college by tomorrow so we will see, I hope those antibiotics work and he starts feeling better.

The weather today has been wet and wild - a pretty awful day to go watch rugby. It was difficult to keep my camera dry despite being under an umbrella, as the wind was blowing the rain in all directions. Thomas' team played very well despite the wet and muddy conditions and they won by a huge score differential. He was shivering and very wet when he came off the pitch. I liked the concentration on this lad's face as he runs with the ball (Thomas is in the background)

The awful weather today was a good forerunner for the photography workshop in the Lake District next week - it is very wet there with flooding in some areas so I hope we manage to find some dry ground. I leave by train tomorrow and I know it will be a very busy week. I am feeling quite torn going away while Adam is so ill but he says he should improve quite soon.
