Puffins
- at RSPB Bempton cliffs near Bridlington.
We got there at the same time as the rain but seeing these puffins made it worthwhile getting wet through.
We returned to the car to dry pout and within 10 minutes the sun was out. We returned to the cliffs to see the main attraction here - Gannets.
Bempton cliffs Gannet colony
They are really spectacular to watch. related to the Albatross their movement on the thermals is amazing and they make a spectacular amount of noise too.
Gannet cacophany
In addition there were Razorbills, Guillemots and Fulmars.
Fulmer and chicks (I think)
Lovely to see the puffins in numbers but apparently many chicks have been lost here and on the Farne Islands further north due to the bad weather.
There was lots of talk of bad weather on the radio in various parts of the country but we went on to Scarborough in the sunshine where people were on the beach and doing all the usual sea sidey things. We went to the Golden Grid and had fish and chips.
A lovely day.
