The creature from five thousand fathoms

The scientists were amazed. The marine life form collected from the immense depths by their probe was not only still alive, but showing signs of adapting to its new environment with its vastly lower pressure. Its flotation bladder had undergone noticeable changes and it had changed colour slightly.

These "super-evolutionary" adaptive changes would mean that their discovery was sure to attract attention in the scientific world. Whilst they argued over which of them the creature should be named after, the subject of their discussions evolved rudimentary, air-breathing lungs and some rather interesting limbs. It climbed out of the tank and, keeping a freshly-minted "eye" on the squabbling researchers, it walked away.
