Millbert's Tortoiseshell on Chives

The butterflies just love Marilyn's chives! I'm sure I've worn a little path to them. There's a bee's nest underneath them though, so I have to be careful about where I put my feet.

We've had Red Admirals, American Ladies, skippers that I can't identify, a silver spotted skipper and these Millbert's Tortoiseshells, which is a new species for me. The monarchs and the swallowtails prefer the hawkweed.

As I visited the chives every day, I got to recognize individual butterflies from the wear and tear of their wings. I guess they don't travel very far from their roosting spot (which I think is in the rose bushes) to get to nectar.
