The chrysalis of either the Red or Yellow Admiral Butterfly, natives of New Zealand
Caterpillars from both butterflies are reliant on nettle plants. Yellow Admiral Caterpillars are paler than those of the Red Admiral, but both change colour as they moult to match their surroundings.
New Zealand’s Red Admiral resembles the European red admiral, but the European variety lacks the blue centred eyespots of our NZ endemic.

Thank you for your comments and stars for yesterday’s Mono Monday blip. I was surprised to find the pennies from South Africa and the Island of Jersey – no doubt these large coins are no longer in circulation.
