Fallen

The beaches are loaded with huge logs, but the section I walked this morning, at the mouth of a river delta, yielded particularly large specimens. Old cedars for the most part, the giants of the northwest woods even today, particularly if they have been protected by a national forest or park - they do rise up from the beach like a giant backbone of the woods. I am on the ferry heading back to the city now, Mt. Rainier is looming above the sound in the near distance. Honestly, there is no reason to leave this corner of the U.S. for beauty and nature, if you can endure all the wet that is. I lucked out with three glorious days in a row.

There are two more for the 25th and 26th as I was happily out of all internet range.
