At The Going Down of the Sun, and In the Morning

I chose not to attend the remembrance parade this morning, and spent five minutes at the Cenotaph alone later.

I was afraid that they would cancel, and take the memorial inside, as organisers did once before.

That made me so angry.   The people who died, didn't say, "hey, it's raining, let's just stay inside the trenches, and leave it til the weather is better.

The memorial take 15 minutes tops.

I am delighted to say, that Himself has come home, soaked to the skin.

They marched on the damp ground, took their places before the cenotaph, and then the winds started and the heavens opened, so that everyone got a good drenching, and they could stand, feeling miserable, and wet, and cold, and sad.

And remember other people, who got colder and wetter, and more sadder than we could ever be, just so that they could stand there, free.

And could feel proud of themselves because they did.
