Old Family Picture

This is really quite a find.  My sister KD and I went through lots of family papers and photos last week and found some unexpected treasures.  We have had the little photo of my Grandfather and his brother, but in the boxes we discovered this original- or I am assuming it is an original.  I had thought it was a photo attached to linen, but when I looked closer at it today, I discovered that it is what I believe may be a drawing.  .  The Grandfather has a beard.  The Uncle has a look that is definitely not a photo, and doesn't even look like it could have been "hand-colored" over.  I don't know that much about these things but I do believe this was done around 1900.  There is a picture with my grandfather and dad from around 1916 and my  grandfather looks much older.  Hair is grayer!!!! 
If anyone knows about this kind of work I would love to know more.  I do intend to take it to a framer who has contacts with a good restorer.
