Devil's Bit Scabious
So called because of it's shortened 'bitten' root .... apparently the devil found it in paradise and was a tad annoyed it was being put to good medicinal use for all those goodie two-shoe little humans ... curing the plague and all that sort of thing. And as if that wasn't enough ... it was used for making tea. Well... that was it ... 'Enough', he said ... and bit off it's root (I know, I was there and saw the whole thing ...it was shocking).
Anyway, this little fella saved the day.
I was on a 'mission', commissioned by 'M' (aka BikerBear), code name FlowerFriday.
Determined to make it a challenge and find something in the wild if I could and I had something in mind. Anything would do and driving miles in the rain over Kirkstone seemed like such a good idea (thank goodness for blip, I say). I failed ... but don't tell 'M'. I had a ridiculously optimistic, obsessive thought that I might catch a confused late Grass of Parnassus in the pouring rain at Grasmere (that's normal .... well, it is isn't it?) - I thought the relatively mild autumn might have kept one lingering on. I realised when I got there and was wet through that I was being absurd but actually it wasn't the real purpose of the mission, was it ...
So, purpose achieved and blip done, even if a very damp, not very beautiful shot. This little fella did the job in between countless calls throughout the day, stopping in every layby en route and whilst out, watching the rain drip off my hood as I spoke to my sister, nurses, etc. etc. The virtual ward is in place again - between us, my sister and I couldn't recall who we had the virtual ward in for last time, it is all such a blur.
It is very hard to know how the demented mind expresses grief ... perhaps this is mum's way ....
On a lighter note, I was very torn on blips ... I was going to blip the extra from the garden, if all else failed ....
It was going to have the caption 'Ok chaps, we are up against the wall fence here ... we give in ... hands up, this is a stick up' ... which reminded me of this. ... seems so dated and I feel old ....
