A delightful lunch
Had a business lunch today in Retford. Great for two reasons - short drive to get there and worked whilst ate a wonderful smorgasbord of cheese, pates, meats and chutney captured in the blip.
So to my 'big' news. After over six months of discussion, soul searching and reflection I have decided to retire at the end of April 2016. This has not been an easy decision for me as my commitment to my work has been strong. But what has become clear is that the level of tiredness my illness causes me is too debilitating to continue at this pace. So I have taken the plunge. In the end my appointment as chair of a national organisation has helped as I can continue this after retirement at my own pace and keeps me in touch with the world I know.
Already changes have been taking place. I have been relieved of my work role where I headed a research centre and allowed to spend the next six months finishing various writing projects (hence the study!) and spending time getting into this new role. My employers have been great allowing me this space and already I have become quite busy on this.
It has taken some four weeks to get used to this and I am now at peace with the decision, I know I will have time to do other things including improving my photography and engagement in blipfoto but ending my professional life has not been easy. Time to write the novel (hence the study) and time to keep my health as well as it can be for as long as It can be, already superseding initial assessments. So a positive decision.
I wanted a blip which reflected the notion of retirement I suppose a leisurely lunch is an image for the future as I intend next summer, if still well, to travel the UK, see a lot of cricket and maybe if I pass your way to have the odd blipmeet and a leisurely lunch or two!
There you have it. Have a good weekend.
