If only I were an artist.
I would paint a picture
that aided presidents
not yet born to see
which government funded
programs to cut, which
to fund, which taxes to increase.
I would paint another
just for single mothers,
to help them cope
with the talk radio
on the morning commute
and the daily dash and scrambled
lunches for their children.
If only I were an artist.
I would paint all day
to stop some tears
from falling on friend's
hugging shoulders.
I would fight
the emotional collateral damage
of cancer
with a brush
and blank canvases.
