"DOWNTON" DAYS
Lack of light means I'm doing a "Throwback Thursday" blip. Here's my grandfather in the middle with one of his daughters, my Auntie Gay, holding the golf clubs. The photo would have been taken about 1930 and she'd have been about 17 or 18. I don't know who the other girl was, probably a friend of hers. Auntie Gay was a real stickler for keeping up standards and doing the "correct" thing. She had a will of iron and enormous self-discipline which stood her in good stead through some very difficult times in her life, and she died in her 90s, looking at least 20 years younger. My grandfather, on the other hand, would have been only in his late 40s here. In those days I think people generally looked older than we expect now.
