Carpet Of Leaves
The golden maple leaves that presently cover my yard are becoming dry and brittle now and since the afternoon was very warm and sunny, I decided to spend a little time playing and photographing them.
Soon enough I will be gathering them all up off the lawn and relocating them down into the woods where they can happily spend the rest of their lives before returning to the Earth from whence they came. But, for now, I think I will enjoy their company just a little while longer. :)
"How silently they tumble down
And come to rest upon the ground
To lay a carpet, rich and rare,
Beneath the trees without a care,
Content to sleep, their work well done,
Colors gleaming in the sun.
At other times, they wildly fly
Until they nearly reach the sky.
Twisting, turning through the air
Till all the trees stand stark and bare.
Exhausted, drop to earth below
To wait, like children, for the snow."
