Make and Mend

An old Navy term for an afternoon off.

Traditionally it was time used by sailors to make and mend their uniforms, which at the time were not supplied by the Royal Navy.

When I was in the Navy, it was a great excuse to go into the local town with your colleagues.

I gave this image a nostalgic feel, as when I'm mending the clothes on the machine, I always think of my dear Granny. She bought me my first machine and we spent hours making things. Happy memories :-)
