Ancient and Modern

The last day of our weekend break is nearly over, a pity it couldn't be longer. Spent a lot of time in the fog again (like yesterday only colder) and the drive home along the Lang Whang wasn't as much fun as usual!
Visited the Ruthwell Cross on today's travels. At nearly 18 feet tall it's pretty impressive and is maybe the most important Anglo-Saxon sculpture in the country. It was carved in the 8th century but was restored only 150 years ago, the Church of Scotland having demanded it's destruction in 1644 as an
'idolatrous monument'. Sound familiar?

The more modern monument is the Family Nan in our local Indian restaurant. Sad to say, that monument has also been destroyed and there's little chance of it's restoration.
