Which way is up?

Thick mist early this morning but with signs of the sun breaking through I was hopeful of some shots from high above the estuary.
So after breakfast it was up to the top of Arnside Knott. But the mist thickened and indeed is still here at mid-day.

However the white sky provided a good background for this striking Scots Pine. It is a mystery to me why this branch should spend its early life growing towards the ground before after some years realising that the light was in the other direction. If anyone has any suggestions for this behaviour I would be most interested.

Early blip today as shortly off to Salford Royal Hospital for annual neurological checkup. Just an enjoyable chat with my Consultant.
