Abandoned

This deserted building is on the side of the main road.  In 2008,  the Salt Spring Coffee company applied to build its new headquarters and a green campus on the site, but the application was refused.  The company moved to Richmond, although there is still a Salt Spring Coffee cafe on the island.  The sign with a drawing of the proposed building remains on the site and is in the extra.
One of the main opponents to the application was Robert Bateman, the famous artist and environmentalist, who lives here.  If you're interested, more information is here
