Snowing.....

This morning we woke up to the hills surrounding us half covered in snow. I rushed outside in my dressing gown and gumboots to take pictures, before it melted during the day. Well that was optimistic thinking!

Half way through feeding out it started to snow and by the time we had finished, it was a lot heavier. This picture was taken outside about 10.45am. The children that go to school on the school bus were sent home at 11.15am as most of them live up valleys were the snow was a lot heavier, and sometimes the roads become to dangerous to drive on. At 11.45am I received a phone call from the school, saying they were closing for the day and to come and pick up the boys. This is the first time that I can remember that the school has been closed because of snow.

After lunch we had to go and move the cows into another paddock and give them some more hay. It has stopped snowing this afternoon, and has been raining a bit -the ground has become very slushy.

The state highways around Murchison have been closed - we are unable to get to Christchurch through the Lewis Pass, and the roads to Nelson and Blenheim (via St Arunard) have also been closed.

What ever would we do if we didn't have the weather to blip........
