Masked Ball

Well the day didn't start too well - but it did start early! I fell asleep on the sofa and woke at 6, but at least there was a glorious sunrise and I was up to do the chickens early! But there happened the second misfortune - I strained my groin replacing the battery for the fence - it's a huge deep leisure battery and is very heavy. My groin is prone to injury due to too many years of manual handling. So once home and with everything packed I went back to bed! Stomach still not settled so poached egg then mashed banana on toast! That should bind me I thought! So eventually set off at 3.30!
The journey was fine and the scenery gorgeous - such a beautiful day! I had an hour to get ready on arrival and it flew by! Think i did the make up better the previous eve! Made my way to the foyer through the wedding party in the hotel - some strange looks came my way - and found London Boy looking deadly! Had time to paint my nails as we waited for his friends! They were a young couple  ( late twenties!) but really lovely! She was a nurse and came as a deadly one, he was the original Lost Boy as per the theme of the Masked Ball and was sporting a mullet! We caught our bus - full of noisy young people - all of whom were looking great in various ghoulish make up!
We walked round the park to get our bearings - and I made note of all the things I wanted to photograph at some point! Well we, or rather they, drank cocktails  endlessly and then had pizza - I has 2 small pieces and a glass of mulled cider! They intended to then do the rides! No way on an empty let alone full stomach would I go on them - and neither did they as didn't want to queue and by the time they went to go on them they had stopped!
Everyone was very friendly, some were well past it even at 7.30 in the eve! The only drawback was  a lot of people were not looking where they were going and I felt as if I was  in a pinball machine! One guy knocked into me so hard I swore at him - completely oblivious! He also spilt the vodka and red bull I'd managed to get right through one dance area without a spill! Sadly the music was not to my taste  and after trying out 3 venues  I left them all to it - we had met up with Ebay Boy, Colourful Mai and DJ Boy on and off throughout the eve! I had a good walk round with my camera and sat and watched the people with a cup of coffee! Still no music to my taste!  I then went to watch The Demon Drome Wall Of Death!
OH MY GOD! what an experience! I screamed, I gasped, I kept flinching backwards  as first one guy then another whizzed round the wall - so fast I couldn't get a photo! The younger guy did stunts I could not believe - both hands off the handles, sitting sideways with his legs stuck out in front of him and his arms in the arm - the next time he came into view he was sitting backwards and the next he had his T-Shirt pulled up over his face! The whole crowd screamed and roared and clapped and gasped! I spoke to one of the guys afterwards. He has seen one of the bikes advertised and when he enquired was told there was two, plus the wall of death - he bought the lot then taught himself! He then took on another guy and had a trick trainer - 13 years later still going and the younger guy performing tricks not done anywhere else for years! I met up with the others and convinced them to come and watch the next show - they didn't seem that convinced but I insisted and they were impressed and amazed as I knew they would be!
By this point Nurse was ready to go home - she had had a skiing accident and had a leg operation on monday! So we got a taxi, expensive, and I was in bed after 3! I enjoyed it, mainly for the dressing up, the company, the Wall of Death and of course the photographic opportunities! But I won't go again - it's very frustrating when you can't find the music you like and just want to dance!
The whole thing ( those photos that worked the best anyway!) is here!
P.S. Stomach still not good so this is a belated backblip and the next few days will be too! Will catch up on journals as and when! )
