The castle in the mist

I was at Edinburgh Castle tonight to speak at an event organised by my old friend the Film Producer Peter Broughan - after first attending the Prize Giving and 100th Anniversary celebration at Tynecastle High School.

The mist had settled up at Crown Square when I arrived , prompting one of the Historic Scotland staff to say that you had never seen the castle properly unless you had seen it like this.

I agree as I have seen it this way several times in the last few years. In the gloaming it conjures up the city of Stevenson and Scott as much as any sunny vista and perhaps more so.

This is the misty view of St Margaret's Chapel at the very top of the rock - the oldest building in Edinburgh.
