Memorial
Yesterday - October 30 - was the "Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Political Repressions". This sculpture by Evgeny Chubarov (b 1934) commemorates the victims. Rather starkly so. There are 283 heads sculpted out of granite, each one symbolising a person known to the sculptor and who had been affected by the repressions in 1937.
More recently, in 2007, one of Chubarov's works was sold by Sotheby's for $562,000 which at the time was the highest price ever paid for work by a living Russian artist.
On an even brighter note, the All Blacks won the World Cup for the third time and therefore make it into today's second blip. 34-17 the margin against Australia.
