You're gonna need a bigger butt

Phase 2 of the chicken run improvement after the new roof was put in place on Sunday; guttering. Two purposes: firstly it stops any of the rain coming off the roof and making its way back into the run soaking the bedding; and secondly to be attached to a water butt. And I'd just finished when the heavens opened. The butt is already a quarter full...

Not a surprise I guess, the run off is coming from an area of about 7-8 sq m from the roof of the back bit of the chicken run. Anyway, might have to buy a second butt and connect the two. Basically my butt isn't big enough...

Likely Friday night that the new chooks will be moving in, nice to have everything watertight. Just need to hope the current girls are welcoming when the new ones arrive. I'm playing optimism to Mel's pessimism. And hadn't realised till looking back through blips that it's almost exactly two years since Skye and Ruby moved in, much to the consternation of Missy and Margot. At least we're more prepared this time with the spare chicken house, and separable walk-in run. Fingers crossed.
