Forgotten

My guidebook says that the Gonder of yesteryear was "a city of extreme brutality and immense wealth." The wealth and brutality are now gone, but reminders can be seen in the 17th century Fasilada's Palace inside the Royal Enclosure, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Royal Enclosure and Palace are now a peaceful place to visit and we spent an hour wandering around in the morning light. Many tourists rush round with a guide, but it's far more rewarding for photography if you just watch and wait. We were the only people in the Palace when two ladies arrived to wash the wooden floors.

D is always very appreciative of cleaners as his grandma worked as a cleaner and he says that they often get forgotten.
