The Rise of the Full Hunter's Moon
My husband and I had backpacked in the Quehanna Wild Area, Sproul State Forest, and the Hammersley Wild Area this fall, and it was time for a car camping trip. So back we went to a little campsite just outside the Quehanna Wild Area, along an old dirt road.
The weather was beautiful and sunny. The foliage in Quehanna was variable. In many areas, peak has started to fade. But there are still pockets of brilliant color left; the occasional standout in a crowd. The tamaracks, those old turncoats, have started to join in, with shades of yellow gold.
The campsite we go to has a wonderful view of the sky. And what a delight: we were perfectly positioned to watch the Full Hunter's Moon rise. It put on quite a show and we set up our chairs in the middle of the road and watched for hours!
I thought that in this photo, the woods looked just a little bit menacing. (Though I'm here to report they actually were not.) The trees look dark and twisted. The foliage is lovely and bright. And there is the big moon, rising right in the middle of it all. I'd almost expect Little Red Riding Hood - or perhaps Diana, the great moon Huntress herself - to step out from under that tree. . . .
The song for a Full Hunter's Moon is GTR (a supergroup from the 80s that featured members of Yes, Genesis, and ASIA) with The Hunter.
