Truffle Day.
When King Henry V returned to England 500 years ago on this day after his victory at Agincourt over the French, he decreed that every Englishman would have the right to dig anywhere for truffles on 28th day of October. This was intended as a sop to the French.
The decree is still in force , although at Stonehenge you have to comply with health and safety rules, i.e. hard hat and Hi-Viz.
One truffle hunter exercising his right had a good old dig with the trowel around the Stones, and came up trumps , but nor sure if it was a truffle.
