Reservists

Today was weird at the day job. The Army had all kinds of personnel, tents, armoured vehicles - they even brought out the big gun - to encourage us to sign up as reservists.

I have no doubt that people can learn discipline and skills in the Army reserves but I wonder why it has to be geared towards conflict. I spoke about my concerns with these pleasant enough chaps  and they said that war was their raison d'être. I think it safe to say war doesn't motivate me.

Wouldn't it be great if we had something akin to a Peace Corps where people of all ages could learn skills to help needy communities both at home and abroad? How can we get that idea rolling?
