Last week's brown leaves have gone. Winter's bare branches are starting to show.



You know those couples who get to a corner and disagree about the best way to get to where they're going? Then each goes their own way to prove that they're right?

Today I had the good fortune to be at a corner where one of those arguments took place. Both nonchalantly ambled off on their chosen route then, the second they were out of sight of each other, started to run.

I don't know why it amused me so much to picture the next corner, when they risked becoming visible to each other, and the slow, breath-calming lope that they'd both adopt.
