Soviet style
This very large statue is directly underneath the arch of friendship between nations, which is/was supposed to be a symbol of the bond between Ukraine and Russia. It probably still is in many ways as there are many links between the two peoples, but the political relationship could hardly be worse. As can be seen in this picture, the statue has had a Ukrainian flag painted on to it.
Apparently this statue would cost too much to remove so it has remained in place. The removal of statues such as this in post-soviet era countries has been commonplace and although I can understand why this has happened I'm not sure it is a good idea to obliterate all of your history. Perhaps some of them should remain so younger generations can learn about their past.
