Richard III
I was in Leicester today for a very special occasion - the service of installation of Honorary Canons of the Cathedral, one of whom is a friend. I also took the opportunity to see the tomb of King Richard III which has been occupied for only a few months. One of the cathedral guides pointed out the sword to me. The tomb is built and lit in such a way that if you look straight down the centre of the cross, the light forms the image of his sword. You can see it on this picture.
There is also, in the cathedral a facsimile copy of King Richard's book of hours, which was with him at his death on Bosworth Field. Alongside it is a leather-bound book of simple bible stories, illustrated by children of Leicester primary schools, a beautiful and very relevant piece of modern history.
