Home Ground
It's been a while since I've been up to my "top patch" - just other things happening, I suppose, but I decided to have a couple of hours up there today. It is always a good spot at this time of year for watching the winter visitors arriving from the North, (Visible Migration) as it is a fine vantage point to see up the valley and also has a patch of alluring Rowan Trees, which are currently full of berries. Sure enough, there were large numbers of Fieldfare dropping in, although they were almost impossible to see once in the trees. Likewise, a sizeable flock of Brambling. The Kestrel in the photo, however, was going nowhere, hunting on his own territory.
There was also an avian treat from the kitchen window this morning, when a Tree Sparrow (almost unheard of around here) flew into next door's tree in the company of 3 Greenfinches.
