Lake Tana Ferry Reprised
Up at 4.30am for breakfast (worth it!) before going off to the airport to catch the early flight to Bahir Dar.
D sent me off to speak to the men outside the terminal who were advertising their hotels.. we knew we wanted to stay at the Ghion like last year - it's cheap and rather run down but has lovely gardens. The men told me that it closed six months ago:-( so I listened to several sales pitches and chose one that sounded OK... When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised - a rather swish hotel, clean and well-appointed, for £30 including breakfast. We have left our anti bedbug sheets in the bag for two nights at least...
Spent the hottest hours of the day wandering round the market and then went for a drink at one of Bahia Dar's many juice bars. Wandered down to the lake shore and back to our lovely hotel room for a couple of hours' rest.
Just before dusk (5pm) we were out again for another lakeside stroll and a pizza.
This is a model down at the pier of the Lake Tana ferry which we shall (hopefully) be travelling on. It leaves at 6.30am on Monday and takes two days to cross the Lake. The real ferry is just like this one, only bigger and with no holes...
