Doon the pit

My dads not been to well for the last couple of days,he has been to the doc and now he is on antibiotics and is feeling a wee bit better. Went to visit him today and I noticed this Davy lamp sitting on his fireplace,my dad went down the pit for the first time when he was 14 and finished when his pit closed in 1985 not long after the miners strike ended.

He got this lamp twenty years ago the deputy's down the mine used to carry them and when the flame grew larger they knew there was gas in that part of the pit that was h&s back then.He tells many funny story's of his times as a miner, one being when a guy beside him was asleep on the job the manager tapped him on the shoulder to tell him what for, and the guy lifted his head and said ....Amen that was the humour of the miners.

Home now and no football to watch tonight have to settle for tennis instead, it was nice to see the sun again today also, thought it had got lost:)
