The "Flasher"

Great blue heron tucked back in the reeds at the salt marsh this afternoon was in what we often comically refer to as the "flasher" pose.
What the bird is likely doing however is a form of thermo regulating it's body heat.
Holding his wings out in a dish type shape allows him to direct sunlight in toward his body if he desires.
