My American "Mom"

I had special visitors this weekend, all the way from the USA.  My family and I have kept in close contact, during the past 4 decades, with our former next-door neighbours from my childhood.  I lived with them during the 1980s as a very green young lad trying to make his way in America.  The entire family have led fascinating lives, from being interred in an American World War II Concentration Camp (even as a US citizen) to being visiting professors at Trinity College Dublin to being a senior member of staff at Yale, not even considering their many fascinating children and many fascinating marriages.  They helped me more throughout my life than many members of my own family.  It is great to keep in touch, and to easily pick up conversations, even when there has been a gap of a few years since we meet.
