........... with the fort (left) and the Castle (right). The latter is on an island and is where Mary Queen of Scot's was imprisoned before escaping to France. 
The following quote, which we found, engraved on a stone bench refers to this event.
"By a quaint quirk, a questing queen quit her quarters, quickly and quietly"!
We were unable to visit the castle as it was too windy for the boat to sail so we need to go back!
