Street Art
By Monday, Music seemed well enough to leave for a while. Amazing! So I drove to my son, Vanja's, house for a visit. I found them out in the road that runs by their house, making the most of the delicate light of late afternoon. Chalk in hand, they were drawing, and as the light dimmed and changed, I snapped away. They were all so wonderfully engaged.
At first, the children were doing sums and Vanja was drawing Ocean, their cocker spaniel. Christy was near by, doing yard work. But gradually, they all became involved. The children gave Vanja's dog a great long tongue with a ball at the end. (Ocean loves to play ball). Soon Ocean had sprouted wings and various unrecognizable appendages. A tall willowy Christmas tree grew from Ocean's back with baubles etc. The more they drew, the more abstract became their creation, and the further they got from my camera. Before the parents called in the the children, who were the last to yield there creation to the night, they were almost to the stop sign, their tiny figures outlined by the sun's last sigh. I include an extra photo of this last sigh, just to give you an idea of the staying power of Julia and Bryce.
Lest anyone worry over the children playing in the street, it is barely traveled...a very quiet country road with few and known neighbors, and the rule is to run to the side the second a car appears. I saw this in action.
