The Vezere
After a bakery van muddle first thing (James did the early morning run to get the crossiants and baguette only to find they weren't there on a Tuesday - which I had known about but had forgotten about until he came back with empty hands - oops!) we headed off to La Roque Saint-Christophe.*
Overlooking the river Vezere, it's a kilometre long cave village hewn out of a limestone cliff. It was mainly inhabited during Medieval times with apparently over 1,000 people in various living spaces five stories high from the ground all the way up the cliff wall. Quite an incredible sight even if freezing cold!!!!
Headed further down the river onto Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuill for a spot of lunch and a lovely 5 and a bit mile walk round the nearby woods.
Another glorious day and the Autumn colours as we crossed the river back to the car really were quite fab. Not sure an iPhone pic really does them justice (not that I can see it too well on such a diddy screen!) however as I'm having a break from the "big" camera this week it'll have to suffice!!
* Am trying to load an extra pic but don't think I can when I'm on the iPhone unfortunately! Will add when back home! Update: Just managed!
