Wimpole Hall

This afternoon Chris, Lizzy, Pete and I drove down to Wimpole Hall to meet up with my niece and her family. The weather was somewhat dark and damp, but we enjoyed a walk through the park up to the newly refurbished folly, which is located on one of the highest points in Cambridgeshire and gives spectacular views of the house and grounds . I was struck by the thought that the essential components of this view probably haven't changed that much since the eighteenth century, and have processed it to accentuate that timelessness.

Although the skies were threatening we didn't get too wet, and managed to get back to the cafe in time for sausage rolls and cakes. It was so good to see Kaddy again, and meet her family. I think her son enjoyed meeting Chris, especially when he managed to find a toad and showed off his tree climbing prowess in one of the estate's finest turkey oaks. Lizzy joined him on the lower branch, though it was rather more effort for her to get into the tree (see extra)!
