Covenanter's Grave
The Covenanter's grave is one of the two notable human artefacts in the Pentlands [The other is the Font Stone.] Given its age and relatively remote setting, it is in very good condition [see extra]. Buried there is one of the victims of the Battle of Rullion Green (1666) who reached a shepherd's cottage where he was given shelter, but died the following day, "trying to get to a point from where he could see the Ayrshire hills just one last time" [as the story goes]. The shepherd, at significant personal risk, buried him up in the hills.
Had a swift trail run to get near the grave and back again, with a couple of kilometers of thick heather and tussocks to reach the site and return to the track.
