A common feature of hotel room ceilings in Indonesia is the small pointer showing the direction of Mecca so people know which way to pray when they're disoriented away from home.

Banda Aceh, being at the far western tip of Indonesia, has also been dubbed 'the port to Mecca' as it was where pilgrims used to come when the journey was done by sea, and people visited the city before boarding boats.

Many Indonesians died in the recent tragic events in Mecca.
