At the end of the day
A day of varying cloud and a little sunshine with a persistent north easterly wind that was keen on top even at the lower heights we attained today.
Awoke to a magnificent view of the fells from the bedroom window to the west of the cottage. It took me a little while and much studying of the map to work out where they were. Must be losing my touch.
We walked from our cottage into Keswick enroute for Latrigg. A gentle stroll up and over Latrigg presented some superb views over Bassenthwaite Lake, Derwentwater and later St John in the Vale and the Helvellyn Range away to the south.
Misread the map on the way back. We were expecting to return along the old railway track but ended up following a permissive footpath to Keswick. I had to look carefully at the map to see where I went wrong and even now I'm not too sure where the error lay.
Enjoyed several cups of tea with a good scone in the Pumpkin Cafe then walked back to the cottage where we enjoyed a glass of champers to celebrate Barbara's birthday from the previous week, tucked in to Cumberland sausage and mash with red onion gravy. Disappointed the Welsh lost but enthralled by the clinical destruction of the French by the All Blacks.
This view was taken from the bedroom window as the sun broke though the cloud at the end of the day, lighting up the distant fells.
