There's smoke among the Hills

Near Castleton this weekend (you can I hope see a little top left of the picture)
They are burning the old Heather to clear the ground so that new shoots will appear in the spring and feed the Grouse when rearing chicks.
Unfortunately this is hardly done out of generosity, as they then intend to shoot them as they grow up.
And lately learned and dissenting opinions of the benefits of burning are starting to appear. as in this link Effects of Heather Burning
My opinion? I don't like unnecessary killing of anything for sport.
We should have more respect for life than that.
