"Oh Shenandoah...."
This is a shot of the beautiful Shenandoah River which we were fortunate to pass during our misadventure today.
This week is a “staycation” for us. After the first few days of doctors appointments and the previously-mentioned procedure, we took advantage of this lovely fall day and headed out to the western part of northern Virginia and the Blue Ridge Mountains. We stopped in Middleburg for a nice lunch, and headed on to the GR Thompson Wildlife Management Area. Our GPS provided faulty information and we ended up on the top of a beautiful mountain, on completely dirt roads that went on for miles. We never did find the wildlife area, and when we finally made our way back, we decided it was getting too late in the day and so we headed off to Leesburg to a favorite Italian restaurant for dinner. When we got home, I checked Google Earth to see exactly where we had been. It turns out that we were very close to the Wildlife area but were on the wrong side of it. When we stopped the car and hiked for a short distance, we were in fact only a few yards from the Appalachian Trail….. probably as close as I will ever get to hiking it.
