Spider Spider

Found this hairy friend comfortably 'perched' on the wall at work today...after taking a few snaps I put him in a glass at which point he curled up and transformed into some beetle like creature and played dead...was quite neat...

any ideas for the type of spider it could be...?! I would be interested to know...
