A life in charcoal

Drawing class today! And I remembered to take a photo of my drawings before having to hand them in.

Today was 'still life' and I made my first drawing with a pencil. I have discovered that I am very reticent to leave a heavy/dark mark when I am drawing. I don't like to overwork things either and tend leave my drawing in a pretty pale, mealy-mouthed sort of state. So I decided to have another go using charcoal - what a revelation! It is so dark! And soft. And bold!

So here is a mandarin orange, drawn using a bit of charcoal. It was such fun!

I must buy some charcoal.....
