Solan Goose

Another gratuitous Gannet Blip. probably be a few more this trip as we seem to be working on a spot on their commuter belt between feeding and nesting sites.
they have air sacs in their face and chest under their skin which is said to act like bubble wrap and cushions the impact when they dive headfirst into the water at great speed.
Their eyes are positioned far enough forward on their face to give them binocular vision, allowing them to judge distances accurately.
This also leads to their demise as their eyes do not fare so well and older Gannets with damaged eyesight due to water impact simply can not see the fish and starve to death:(
